Q&A Session with Director Keishi Otomo and Actor Munetaka Aoki

To stop Makoto Shishio who aims to conquer Japan, Kenshin arrives in Kyoto and tries to face off against Shishio’s troops. However, his enemies have begun invading Tokyo with their steel-reinforced battleship. To save the captured Kaoru who is thrown into the sea by Shishio’s men, Kenshin also dives in after her but is washed ashore alone, unconscious.
Kenshin recovers with the help of his master, Seijuro Hiko, who finds him washed up on the shore. Kenshin realizes he is no match for Shishio unless he learns the ultimate technique of his sword style, and begs his master to teach him.
In the meantime, Shishio finds out that Kenshin is still alive, and puts pressure on the government to find Kenshin and execute him in public for his sins during his days as “Battosai the Killer”. As Kenshin faces his biggest challenge, can he really defeat his fiercest enemy Shishio, and be reunited with Kaoru?!

日本征服を狙う志々雄真実（藤原竜也）の野望を止めんと鋼鉄戦艦「煉獄」に乗り込んだ緋村剣心（佐藤健）であったが、人質となり海へと突き落とされた薫（武井咲）を救うために自らも荒波の中へ身を投げ出し、意識を失う。目覚めたとき彼の前にいたのは、師匠・比古清十郎（福山雅治）であった。志々雄に勝つためには飛天御剣流の奥義を会得する以外にないと考えた剣心は、師の下で特訓を始める。一方剣心の生存に気づいた志々雄は、彼を「人斬り抜刀斎」として捕らえ処刑するよう政府に脅しをかける。果たして剣心は志々雄の野望を止めることが、そして再び薫と出会うことができるのだろうか？

Keishi Otomo

Director

Born in 1966 in Iwate Prefecture, he joined NHK in 1990 after graduating from Keio University. In 1997 he went to the US, and spent two years studying scriptwriting and directing in Los Angeles. On his return, he directed a series of NHK TV programs, including the Saturday night drama The Vulture (2007), the drama special Jiro Shirasu: Man of Honor (2009), and the Sunday night historical drama series Ryomaden (2010). He also directed the feature-film version of The Vulture (2009), and is the recipient of many awards, both in Japan and abroad, including a Prix Italia, a Hoso Bunka Foundation Award, a Galaxy Award, an Arts Festival Award for Excellence, an International Drama Festival in Tokyo Award for Best Drama, an Élan d’Or Award, the Nikkei Hitmaker of the Year prize, and a Director’s Award from the Hoso Bunka Foundation. Leaving NHK in 2011, he established himself as an independent director with the smash hit Rurouni Kenshin trilogy (2012, 2014, 2014), and Platinum Data (2013). His next film is Himitsu: The Top Secret (working title), which is scheduled to be released in 2016.

Munetaka Aoki

Actor

Born in 1980 in Osaka, he made his feature debut with Battle Royale II in 2003, going on to star in the NHK series Tsunagareta asu in 2006, the 2007 NHK morning drama series Chiritotechin (2007), and the NHK Sunday night historical drama series Ryomaden (2010) and Taira no Kiyomori (2012). His films include the Umizaru series, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time (2010), Hara-Kiri: Death of a Samurai (2011), and the first Rurouni Kenshin (2012). Since then his work has included Fly with the Gold, the NHK TV series Hatsukoi (both in 2012), Princess Sakura: Forbidden Pleasures (2013), Meoto zenzai (TV, 2013), Ikitai tasuketai, Musashi Miyamoto (both TV, 2014), The World of Kanako, Ishi no Mayu (TV, 2015) and the stage play Bakumatsu Taiyo Den (2015). His next film will be A Woman Wavering in the Rain, which will be released in 2016.
