This panel will discuss current trends, issues, and the future of the creative relationship between Hollywood and Japan, while discussing the challenges of adapting Japanese content and culture for an American audience.

Doug Liman

Director

Doug Liman is a New York based director and producer. His recognition in the film industry propelled to enormous heights when he single handedly resuscitated the spy thriller genre with his film The Bourne Identity. He is the son of Ellen (née Fogelson), a painter and writer, and Arthur L. Liman, a lawyer well known for his public service, which included serving as chief counsel for the Senate Iran-Contra hearings. It was Liman's indie film Swingers (written by Jon Favreau) that jump-started his career as well as the career's of it's cast members which included Vince Vaughn, Ron Livingston, and Patrick Van Horn. Also known for films such as Go, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Jumper, Fair Game, a slew of television productions - including USA 's top rated drama Suits and The O.C. - and most recently on the big screen Live. Die. Repeat. (Edge of Tomorrow).

Entertainment Lawyer

Masa possesses special expertise in advising Japanese clients on the ins-and-outs of the entertainment industry in Hollywood. He has been involved in high-profile media related litigation and Merger and Acquisitions of media related companies. Notably, he has represented Miramax in its day-to-day operations, acquisition deals and financing deals since it was acquired from Disney by Colony Capital. In representing his clients, he has familiarized himself with the customs and practices of the entertainment industry here in Hollywood. He has represented a wide range of entertainment related companies including television networks, film distribution companies, talent management companies, toy companies and high-net-worth individuals. He is licensed to practice in California and New York.
