What is LA EigaFest 概要
LA EigaFest is a Japanese film festival based in Los Angeles and hosted by the Japan Film Society. Its three main objectives are to 1) Showcase Japanese and Japanese influenced films that appeal to the broad American audiences, 2) Introduce and promote new and upcoming filmmakers and talent to the Hollywood community, and 3) Enhance the communication and relationship between the US and Japanese film industries and thus create business opportunities.
“Eiga” which means “Film” in Japanese, was chosen to be included in the name of the film festival in hope that this would become an iconic Japanese-English term and a symbol of the world of Japanese cinema.
米国ロサンゼルスにおける日本映画に特化した映画祭で、一般アメリカ人に日本の映画や文化を浸透させ、日米の相互理解を深めることをミッションとしているＮＰＯ法人Japan Film Societyが主催する最大のイベントです。この ミッションを達成するために、本映画祭は幅広いアメリカ人観客層に訴求する日本映画や日本の影響を強く受けた映画を上映し、日米の映画業界内で新たな才能 を発掘するための機会を創出し、さらには日米映画業界間の有益なビジネス関係を強め、交流を深める事を目的としています。
これまでもいくつかの日本語が特定の日本文化を意味する英語として使用されるようになってきましたが、「EIGA」と言えば、日本「映画」を意味する世界共通語となるよう願いを込め、本映画祭をLA EigaFest と命名いたしました。
